B's take on "The Royal Roll" and Jupiter House

So I'm in Denton with my bestie Lizzy and she swears by these supposedly awesome cinnamon rolls. Well my mom and I are cinnamon roll connoisseurs so I'm basically skeptical. I try it an outer edge piece and I'm like eh...I need a microwave. I only like to eat them hot. So I'll review one I'm taking home tomorrow. But I did order two bad ass smoothies. Pluto's Peaches and Peaches N' Cream. Pluto's Peaches is more boldly citrus thanks to the mango and strawberry. PEACHES N CREAM is more light and sweet thanks to the banana. I love them both. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu board. Try Jupiter House on the square in Denton, Texas. Here's some food porn: ;-)

Best Cinnamon Roll Ever!!!

This is one of the cinnamon rolls that comes from Royal's Bakery & Deli that we got from Jupiter House in Denton, Tx. These cinnamon rolls are the most awesome things ever, even though Barroni has her doubts. Her doubts, though, come from the fact that she got this roll second hand, and not straight from the warm and gooey source of Royal's.

Royal's Bakery & Deli is located a little off the corner of Carrol and University in Denton, right next to that doughnut place called "Donut". It doesn't look like much on the outside, but inside is country-chic and family friendly. The best part is the huge baking table where you can watch these rolls get made.

Let me tell you a bit about these rolls, because I had the pleasure of watching them make these one morning when I rolled in early on my way to work. There are only three things you need to know about them:

1. These rolls are made fresh every two batches. One batch makes about two dozen rolls, so they're made fresh pretty regularly. If Royal's runs out, they make more right in front of you; the bar seating next to the till allows you to watch!

2. Instead of using the less flavorful but cheaper white sugar, Royal's recipe calls for brown sugar, which preserves moistness, flavor, and bonds to the cinnamon better.

3. ALL THE BUTTER!! They use a lot of butter in this recipe, from the batter to the cinnamon mixture to the icing (which is also homemade, btw). ALL THE BUTTER!

Noodle Wave in Richardson, Texas

So it was my first time ever eating out for curry. I'm used to homemade curry made by my Vietnamese step father and perfected by my American mother. I had coconut curry with this awesome bread and rice. My friend Greg had a red spicy curry. We had two appetizers. I orders shrimp blankets and he ordered crab ragoon. Both tasted fresh with a satisfying crunch. The sauces were unique and seemed like they were made from scratch. Before ordering we were served complimentary bowls of what looked like a rice porridge laden with cilantro. The broth was good but I'm not really one for cilantro unless it's in a small quantity of salsa. All in all it was a decent lunch. The dinner versions are almost twice the price for most entrees. The decor is amazing and so breath taking.  If you feel like a splurge with good people then visit noodlewave.com
